The history of LINAK
In 1976, Bent Jensen, a newly graduated engineer, took over Christian Jensen & Sons, a family business founded by his grandfather. This marks the beginning of LINAK.
1907 – the beginning
It began in 1907, when Bent Jensen’s grandfather established a blacksmith workshop. The workshop was handed over to Bent Jensen’s father in 1939. In 1976, Bent Jensen took over the business.
1979 – the first linear actuator
In 1979, Bent Jensen developed the idea for an electric linear actuator while talking to a friend from his student days. His friend had a disability and needed a way to adjust his wheelchair. This led to the development of the first electric linear actuator.
1984 – the LINAK name
In 1984, the company name changed from Christian Jensen & Sønner to LINAK – short for ‘Lineær Aktuator’.
1990 – A small revolution
Initial development took place in agriculture. In 1990, Bent Jensen established an electronics department. This made it possible to develop complete systems, including wash systems with battery backup used in hospital beds. Another development was the electric inline height adjustable column system for office desks.
Today
LINAK has production facilities around the world to stay close to customers. At the same time, a significant part of production is maintained in Denmark, supported by automation and robotics.
Ownership
Maintaining the company’s ownership structure has been an important consideration, with focus on the business, culture, and local roots. LINAK remains a family‑owned company, with ownership retained within the family.
